What does the celebrant’s fee include?
Design of the ceremony, preparation and lodging of all documentation, as much personal and phone/email contact as required, a rehearsal and my travelling costs within the Mornington Peninsula and south-eastern suburbs.
Can I get married on the beach or in a park?
Yes, but generally, a permit from the relevant Shire council is required. If you are planning a wedding on a Mornington Peninsula Shire beach or in a park, contact the Shire on www.mornpen.vic.gov.au.
Can same-sex couples marry in Australia?
Yes, as of 9th December, 2017, same-sex couples may legally marry in Australia.
How do I get married in Australia if I reside overseas?
You must complete a Notice of Intended Marriage at least one month prior to your wedding date. See www.ag.gov.au for further information.
How far in advance of our wedding date should we book a celebrant?
The earlier, the better! I recommend you begin your planning at least three to six months from your wedding so we have plenty of time to design a perfect ceremony.
Can we write our own vows?
Absolutely! Aside from certain legal wording required under the Marriage Act 1961, you can include your own wording.
Do we have to follow the general Order of Ceremony?
No, I can design a ceremony which suits you.
Can we have our children involved in the ceremony?
Certainly. There are many lovely ceremonies and rituals which enable you to include your children.
How do I obtain a birth certificate?
You should contact the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in your state. In Victoria, you can apply online at www.bdm.vic.gov.au.
How old do my witnesses have to be?
You must arrange for two witnesses over the age of 18.
Do I have to change my name?
No, there is no legal requirement for you to change your name after you are married. However, if you wish to do so, you can apply online at www.bdm.vic.gov.au.
